August 9th Meeting Notes
Michele Zack
1. We decided to compile a file of materials I and others are
collecting related to water conservation, ideas for keeping rainfall
and other water on the land instead of going into the storm drain
system, garden design, etc. Will look into having a drawer in the TC
office as a lending/copying library, also, some material Bev will post
on website.
2. John Z will continue to work on graphs that show comparisons of
water usage, water costs, among different companies and individuals
customers. Still to be decided how best to use them: as posters,
handouts, etc.
3. Bev is working on a graphic that shows sub-basins overlaid on
Thomas Guide-type map. She will also compile a bibliography for our
workshop, including good websites, as a handout. She will ask Terry to
give a short talk on his experiences in lawn reduction.
4. Barbara will plan her presentation at workshop on permeable
surfaces, ways to deal with lawn reduction, some planting ideas. She
will also ask her friend Jill from the Arboretum to speak on water
conservation gardens (not drought tolerant).
5. Michele will continue to contact water agencies to secure support
in the form of ed materials, and look for a native plant specialist to
speak. She will talk to Mark about doing a short, inspirational talk
on design to get people thinking about how to create beauty in a
garden. Meets with Charles Thomas tomorrow to discuss watershed
consultant youth program.
